Wind Vision wins award at MIPCOM

Red Carpet in Cannes for ZAPPWARE winning the User Experience Award for WIND-Hellas new TV service.

Cannes, France – 15 October 2018.

During the Content Innovation Awards held at the MIPCOM in Cannes, ZAPPWARE won The UX Award for its commercial deployment for WIND Hellas in Greece.

Patrick Vos, CEO of Zappware explains: “Telecom operators want to stay relevant towards their end-users with their entertainment value propositions. With Zappware, our mission is to provide them with the right solutions to turn their viewers into more loyal consumers spending more time and money with them.

It has been a significant effort to design, develop, test and validate the right user interface, combining linear and OTT in a perfect symbiosis. The NeXX 4.0 solution-suite includes the visible part, that is the multiscreen user interface and the part that is under the hood: our back-office with operator tools. An important tool is the NeXX 4.0 marketing console, enabling marketeers and content teams to manage the user interface to bring relevant personalized content and up-sell triggers.

Great that not only the telecom operators are excited to source the solution, also their end-users love the solution.

For Zappware, winning the User Experience Award is really a fantastic recognition from the industry for our end-user focus.”

“We launched WIND VISION before the summer this year and got great end-user feedback so far. We were the first integrating Netflix with a state-of-the-art multiscreen video solution. Android TV and the Zappware cloud back-office running on Amazon AWS have been accelerating factors in terms of platforms used. The key differentiating factor however, was Zappware’s user interface. It is great to be part of this success story in winning The User Experience Award with them”, said Hermann Riedl, Chief Strategy & Digital Transformation Officer of WIND Hellas.

Pathe Thuis the biggest cinema in The Netherlands

The Dutch T-VOD service Pathé Thuis claims to be the biggest cinema in The Netherlands.

Speaking at the Telecom Insights event from Telecompaper, CEO Thomas van de Weerd told the audience that revenue of the platform is growing 50% year-on-year. Pathé Thuis specialises in brand new movies, that can be rented six months after the theatrical release. Rental pricing varies between €1.99 to €5.99.

The platform covers almost all newly released movies that are available in the country, 432 last year (2017). Apart from rental Pathé also offers the possibility to buy the titles as electronic download (EST) for an average price of €14.95.

He also unveiled the ways people are accessing the streaming platform, 50% on smart TVs, 25% on mobile, 15% on the web and the remaining 10% on other devices, including Playstation and Apple TV. No surprise that smart TVs are the main platform for watching movies; at the moment 44% of all Dutch TV sets are connected smart TVs.

Of all new movies watched in the TVOD/EST window, already half the viewing takes place via OTT services, the other via traditional operators. Van de Weerd expects the OTT share to grow further in 2019.

The platform was started in 2011, when there were still rental stores and no streaming market. “We built the platform in six moths, but it took us three years to get all the VOD rights’ according to Van de Weerd.
